What a devastating week for Tennessee. The state received a huge rainstorm which caused extensive flooding in West and Middle Tennessee. Nashville received about 18 inches in just over 24 hours. The surrounding rivers flooded, and the damage is simply unbelievable.
We watched the Cumberland River's waters slowly inch closer and closer to our home. Thankfully, our house took on about 16 inches of water under the foundation, but we escaped the brunt of it. Here are some pictures of our neighborhood on Monday morning. The waters continued to rise after the pictures were taken....
This was taken from our street looking into the backyard of a house 3 doors down from ours. About 6 hours after this picture was taken, the van was almost completely submerged.
Water is about 3/4 of the way over this storage shed. This was also about 3 doors down from us!
The remaining pictures were taken from the street behind our house. This one is of a van, which was almost completely submerged and disappeared under the water while Robert and I watched....
This mailbox was also completely submerged about 6 hours later....
Monday morning, we thought this house might be spared, but by Monday night, the water was over the swing that you can see in the yard and into the house.
James and I were in the Bellevue area of Nashville yesterday. The devastation is unabelievable. The contents of entire homes now sit in people's front yards -- segregated into piles of trash and items that they will attempt to save. It will take years to recover from this event, and these families will need our prayers and support for weeks and months to come.
