A Maundy Thursday Surprise (times six)!

About, oh, 65 days or so ago, it was a Sunday morning.  Sunday mornings at our house are C-R-A-Z-Y.  In the midst of the chaos of last minute sermon preparation, dressing children, and dressing ourselves, James let our lab Anna out to do her business.  As usual, we were running late and left in a hurry, and we forgot to round up Anna before we left.  When we returned from church three hours later, we realized what had happened.  A small panic ensued, and we drove around for about an hour searching for her and asking the neighbors if they had seen her.  With no luck, we went to get some lunch.  On our way back home, we again drove around searching.... just as we gave up the search and headed for the house, we found her in the yard of the presbyterian church, about three doors down from our house, on her way back home.  She was covered in mud but was otherwise clearly happy to have been out exploring.   Little did we know, sweet Anna had been very, very busy.

Fast forward about 40 days.  James said, "I think Anna may be pregnant...."

Fast forward another 10 days.  It's becoming pretty darn clear that we're going to have some new life in our house (again).

So, in the wee hours of the morning yesterday, Sweet Anna birthed 6 cute little yellow pups.  They are all yellow, so we suspect that dad might be a yellow lab we have seen wandering around the neighborhood.  But it's difficult to tell just yet. 

Because we weren't exactly sure about the when and where and all that jazz, we did not tell Robert what was happening.  So yesterday, when he got home from school, James told him that he had something to show him......

After the Maundy Thursday service last night, we moved everybody into the warm workshop and placed them in a plastic swimming pool so that we could have a safe way to contain them that we could easily keep clean.  We left Anna alone to get settled, and a while later, I went back to check on them to find that Anna wasn't a fan of the swimming pool.  She had moved three of them into the far corner of the room (where there is carpet) and was working on moving the rest.  We ended up putting them in all into Anna's crate, which mama clearly thought was a better, more protected idea.   Robert is beyond excited, and Mom and Dad are beyond stressed!  But, it's hard to stay too stressed in the presence of such cuteness!
