To give a quick summation of the last several months, James made a decision to respond to a calling that has been present in his life for many years. We decided to start the process by applying to various divinity programs. Because we were applying after all of the scholarship deadlines had passed, the original plan was to hope that James could attend Vanderbilt Divinity School part-time this fall and then enter a program where he could hopefully receive some type of scholarship award in the spring or fall of the following year. Much to our delight, James received full scholarship awards to TWO different divinity programs -- AFTER the deadlines had passed! We decided on Vanderbilt's program, and the journey began. This summer has been all about planning our move to Nashville, including attempting to sell our farm, searching for a job and daycare, and house hunting! James has also spent the better part of the summer in Memphis participating in a summer internship program through the Turner Center for Church Leadership regarding Servant Leadership.
As of today, I still have not secured a job in Nashville (the market is tough there right now!), but we have found a wonderful house to rent while we are there.
The house has three bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen, livingroom, and den. We were very blessed to find a landlord who was seeking a divinity student tenant who would take good care of the property while the owner is out of state on work. The house was recently completely redone, so in many ways, it's like moving into a brand new house!
James is set to start orientation on August 18th, and Robert and I will remain in west Tennessee (continuing to try to sell our farm) until I find a job and we can all live under one roof again!
We hope to use this blog as a way to not only update you about our journey through seminary but also to update you on our journey through parenthood! Robert is currently 13 months old and is growing up faster than we ever could have imagined. He is always adding new "skills" to his resume, and we are excited that this blog will be a way to share those milestones with those who are near and far. I will write more about Robert in another post, but I couldn't mention him without including a fairly recent picture from his big first birthday in June!
