Advent Week 1

The first Sunday of Advent was this past Sunday.  Advent means "coming" and is a time in which we prepare ourselves to welcome the Messiah.  Come, thou long expected Jesus.....

The first Sunday of Advent, we light the HOPE candle on the advent wreath.  The hope candle signifies not only our hope in the coming birth of Jesus but also our hope in his second coming on earth.  By lighting the hope candle, we are reminded about the meaning of Christ's birth and become more excited and HOPEFUL about his coming in the past, in the future, and in our own lives.

We encourage you to take some time this week and be HOPEFUL - for Emmanuel is coming!

Luke 1:30-33
But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
